The article that compares the three wolves to being three major marital issues really struck me. Read the article here: https://byui.instructure.com/courses/50274/files/9149276/preview. The first wolf is natural adversity. The article compares it to a story in the scriptures about a couple that has been praying for a child for years. When the mother is finally able to have a child, they learn that the child is born with a hear defect and dies soon after. I can also see natural adversity as financial struggles or unexpected events that can change the dynamics of a marriage. The second wolf is one’s own imperfections. I feel like this can be a number of things. Ultimately, I believe that if we do not realize our own imperfections, then we will not be able to change for the better of ourselves and our marriage. The last wolf is excessive individualism. I feel that this is the most dangerous wolf- both in marriage and in society. When one has excessive individualism, they separate themselves from the feelings and opinions of others. All that matters to them is their opinions and their own success. It’s possible for them to be unable to sacrifice things in their lives for a potential family, or for the opinions and feelings of others. This can hurt society in politics, which has been apparent over the past few years. This can also affect society on a smaller scale in communities that are struggling to thrive.
All three of these wolves must be able to be recognized and kept at bay in order to maintain a successful marriage and a success in society as well.
In my own marriage, I want to do everything in my power to be sure that my husband and I are in this marriage for the eternal blessings and not because it was a contract we agreed upon. I’ve been married for 7 years and I’m constantly learning new ways to strengthen my relationship with my husband. For starters, I love him deeply. I respect him and I understand what it means that he is an amazing husband, father, and provider. I also understand that I am blessed and that I truly have a wonderful life. Keeping this outlook on my personal life helps keep me grounded.
